Happy
2018! We're a week in to the new year already, and Christmas feels like an age
ago. It's been an incredibly busy December for me and I'll be honest, I'm glad
January has finally come around so my days can get back to normal! I've been
away from the blogging world for a while due to my job being so hectic at the
end of 2017 and after completing my second year of doing NaNoWriMo, I felt like
taking a little break from writing. But it's a new year and January always
feels like a good time to start things up again, so I'm back with (hopefully!)
weekly posts.
In the meantime, what
do I want to achieve with my reading in 2018?
In my reading resolutions from 2017 I set myself a decent
chunk of things to try and accomplish throughout the year (linked here if you want to check it
out.) I knew I wouldn't get around to them all - I'm only human! - but I wanted
to at least give some of them a try and I think I gave them all a good go: I
still clear out my shelves on a regular basis, I read lots of new authors last
year, and I've read a variety of different books, including middle grade novels
and pictures books. These are all things I want to carry through in to my
reading habits for 2018, but I'm not going to punish myself for not sticking to
them. My main goal for this year is simple:
to enjoy what I'm reading.
It sounds easy, right? I've been a reader for most of my
life, it's something I've always loved. Yet I find myself still reading a lot
of books that just aren't my jam; books I feel I should read or have been
meaning to pick up for years and not enjoying them when I get around to them.
Ultimately, I want this to be a year where I fall back in love with reading
again. I'm going to pick up what I want to read when the fancy takes me and DNF
anything that I don't like. Life is too short to read books that you don't
enjoy and there's so many great titles out there that I want to get around
too.
My plan is to still keep my reading as eclectic as possible
and I still want to revisit the works of some old authors (one of the goals I
didn't quite manage to achieve last year), but I also want to make sure I'm
excited to pick up my current read. I had way too many two star reads last year
and only one book felt deserving of five stars, which makes me a bit sad to
think about. I want to read more books that completely grip me and leave me
wanting more, so if you have any recommendations please send them my way. I'm
in desperate need of some good reads!
Here's to what I hope will be a happy and successful year.
Until next time, happy reading, fellow book lovers.
